Please join People to People Delaware and World Trade Center Delaware as we welcome Heather Variava, a regional expert from the State Department, as she talks about U.S. relations with Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan and the role these countries play in the South Asia/Indian Ocean region.

Heather Variava is the Director of the Office of Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives and Bhutan in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.  A member of the U.S. Foreign Service, Ms. Variava has served overseas in Mumbai, India; Port Louis, Mauritius; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; and Dhaka, Bangladesh.  In Washington, she has served at the State Department Operations Center and on the Thailand desk.

Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Ms. Variava worked as a newspaper reporter in central Maine.  Raised in Iowa, she received an undergraduate degree in international relations from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.  She has a master's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri, and, with a Rotary Graduate Scholarship, received a master's degree in European Studies from the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom.  In 2012, Ms. Variava received a master's degree in national security strategy from the National War College in Washington, DC.  Her husband also works for the State Department, and the couple has two sons.

Take I-95 South
Take Exit 7B Delaware Ave (Route 52 North)
Turn right at light
Be sure to stay in the left lane, turns into Pennsylvania Avenue
Approximately one mile, pass under crosswalk, 3rd traffic light (DuPont Rd) (Al DuPont Middle School on right)
Turn left onto DuPont Road, ½ mile to Ed Oliver Golf Club on your left

FROM THE SOUTH

Take I-95 North
Take Exit Delaware Ave (Route 52)
Drive straight for three blocks to Route 52 North
Turn left
Be sure to stay in the left lane, turns into Pennsylvania Avenue
Approximately one mile, pass under crosswalk, 3rd traffic light (DuPont Rd) (Al DuPont Middle School on right)
Turn left onto DuPont Road, ½ mile to Ed Oliver Golf Club on your left

FROM THE SOUTH/WEST

Take RT 141 going North
Turn right onto DE-48/Lancaster Pike ~1 mi
Turn left onto Dupont Rd, ½ mile to Ed Oliver Golf Club on your right

FROM THE EAST

Take DE-41/Lancaster Pike ~1.7 mi
Slight left at DE-48/Lancaster Pike ~4.8 mi
Turn left onto DuPont Rd, ½ mile to Ed Oliver Golf Club on your right.
